Xilence is a relatively new brand on our market of computer components. In the offer of this company, there are power supplies, cases, coolers, graphic cards, chipsets and verious supplements, too. For you, this this time, we tested Xilence SPS-XP480. This product comes in a small cardboard box with some of the characteristics of this product on it. The content of this box is very poor with a power cord only and bolts for an installation of a power supply in a case. The power supply is protected with an ordinary foil which is not the best protection in transport.
This is one of the cheapest power supplies produced by Xilence, which has a black and rough shell cooled with one 129 mm fan of the same producer. The back part of the power supply is perforated similar to the honeycombs to ensure a good airflow. On the back side, there is a main switch to turn on the power supply, too. SPS-XP480 has a passive PFC assembly not to receive the electric energy automatically because there is a built-in switch with which a user defines on which type of a net he wants to connect his case.
When looking the sticker with the specifications, we can see that this power supply is compatible with ATX standard v2.2, that is it has two separate 12-volt connector. The first connector on which the processor is connected due to the specifications offers 15 ampers of electric energy, and the second connector on which all other components are connected can „draw“ 16 ampers. Of course, one must bear in mind that this are probably the values which the power supply can give during a short loading. The power on 3.3 volt and 5 volt lines is not important nowadays knowing that energy consuming components from these lines have a low consumption rate. What is strange with this product is the fact that we did not succeed in finding a UL number on its tag to inform us that this company really made this product. Also, it is a very common case that companies which sell power supplies under their name buy these cases from some other greater OEM producer.
The power supply cables are messy which can be solved by adding more plastic ties. The number of the offered connectors is average and it should satisfy large amount of users. Generally, 24- pin ATX connector can be separated, which is excellent for all users with old boards on which are 20-pin connectors.
Speaking about the installation of the power supply, it was not perfect as we had expected. Namely, the holes on the back part of the supply with which we focus the power supply on the case are very narrow so you need to invest a bit more effort in the mounting of this power supply. Xilence SPS-XP480 is compatible with majority of computers, which is very efficient. This power supply model has a small number of connectors and messy cables. The main remark with this power supply is the voltage on the 5-volt line which in our test was beyond the borders given by ATX specifications. Also, the situation with the 12-volt line impressed us, so it is hard for us to give a recommendation for this power supply. What we liked with this power supply is its attractive design and its very silent working.
